The IPA's partnerships
The Institute of Applied Pedagogy works with Burundian institutions, international organisations, partner universities and specialised organisations. These collaborations cover teacher training, research and curriculum modernisation. The research projects carried out with some of these partners are presented on the Projects & Partnerships page.
International partner organisations
UNESCO
UNESCO supports Burundi in improving the quality of education, notably through its support for drawing up the 2019 national teacher policy, to which the IPA contributed. This collaboration places the IPA's work within the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 4 (Quality Education).
UNICEF
UNICEF Burundi supports the Ministry of Education in reforming school curricula and developing teacher training. The IPA shares this commitment to quality, inclusive education that respects children's rights.
Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF)
The Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) supports research and university cooperation in the French-speaking world. Under its APPRENDRE programme, the IPA carried out a study on the assessment of learning and the analysis of classroom practice in Burundi (2020). This network opens access to calls for collaborative projects and facilitates the mobility of teacher-researchers.
Our university partners
Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa (IPL)
The Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa (IPL) in Portugal is a partner in applied sciences and technological innovation. Through its engineering school, ISEL, it takes part in the BRIGHTER project, funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ programme, which aims to modernise curricula and train teacher-researchers in renewable energy in Burundi.
Chicago State University
In November 2025, Chicago State University and the University of Burundi signed a memorandum of understanding paving the way for closer collaboration: staff and student exchanges, joint research projects and professional development workshops.
Specialised partners
Libraries Without Borders
Libraries Without Borders supports access to information and educational resources in low-resource settings, notably through digital tools such as the Ideas Box, deployed in Burundian universities. This partnership contributes to the digital transformation of higher education and to access to knowledge.
