Two years of advanced training, professional or research-oriented. Find out about the admission conditions and the application portal.

The IPA Master's Programmes: Structure, Duration and Objectives

The Master's programme of the Institute of Applied Pedagogy lasts two academic years and totals 120 ECTS credits, i.e. about 1,800 hours of teaching. Each Master's combines theoretical courses, seminars, practical work, research projects and placements in real educational settings.

Professional or research-oriented, the Master's programmes deepen subject mastery and didactics, and open the possibility of doctoral studies according to the programmes and structures of the University of Burundi.

The programme is organised in eight specialisations in two groups: four Master's in Languages and four Master's in Sciences. To find out about the content of each specialisation and the course structures, see the Master's Programmes page in the Programmes section.

General Admission Conditions for the Master's

To be admitted to the first year of the Master's (Master 1) at the Institute of Applied Pedagogy, applicants must meet three official admission conditions set by the University of Burundi and adapted to the specialisations offered.

  1. First-cycle degree
Applicants must hold a recognised first-cycle degree. This must be either a Licence or Bachelor's degree awarded by the University of Burundi, or a university degree recognised as equivalent by the National Commission for the Equivalence of Diplomas. This first-cycle degree is the academic foundation required to begin a Master's.
  2. Subject compatibility
Applicants must hold a degree compatible with the chosen Master's specialisation. The degree submitted must correspond to the field of the Master's applied for, demonstrating adequate prior training in the subject or in recognised related fields. This requirement ensures that students have the prerequisites they need to succeed in their chosen specialisation.
  3. Passing the selection tests
Applicants must pass the entrance examination or admission selection organised by the University of Burundi according to an academic calendar published each year. The University of Burundi generally organises a Master's entrance examination to assess applicants' academic preparation. Examination results, combined with academic record and subject compatibility, form the basis of the final selection.

In addition to the three general conditions above, there are the conditions set out in the call for applications for the year concerned. The University of Burundi's Master's admission portal is available at https://master.ub.edu.bi. Applicants should consult it for the procedures, any additional documents and the calendar for the current year.

Required documents and calendar

The list of required documents and the admission calendar (opening of applications, entrance examination, announcement of results) are published each year in the call for applications, on the University of Burundi's Master's admission portal: https://master.ub.edu.bi. Applicants should check it regularly and meet the set deadlines.
