The IPA Bachelor's: Structure and Duration
The Bachelor's programme of the Institute of Applied Pedagogy lasts three academic years and totals 180 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System), equivalent to about 2,700 hours of academic work. These three years are an early entry into the teaching profession, allowing students to develop both solid subject expertise and essential teaching skills.
The programme is organised in six departments, divided into two groups: three departments in Languages and three in Sciences. The Language departments are English, French and Kirundi-Swahili. The Science departments are Biology-Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics-Technology. Each department offers in-depth training in the subject with a strong teaching dimension, preparing future teachers for Burundi's Basic and Post-Basic Schools.
General Admission Conditions for the Bachelor's
To be admitted to the first year of the Bachelor's (BAC 1) at the Institute of Applied Pedagogy, applicants must meet three general admission conditions set by the University of Burundi. These conditions are the same for all applicants, whatever their chosen specialisation.
- Entry qualification
Applicants must hold the Burundian State Diploma, awarded after the State Examination. Alternatively, applicants may present a university qualification recognised as equivalent by the National Commission for the Equivalence of Diplomas. This qualification is the academic basis required to begin higher education. - Placement and admission
Applicants must be placed in or admitted to an IPA department through the official admission procedure held each year. Placement takes place via the University of Burundi's programme choice platform, available at https://inscriptionbac.ub.edu.bi. Applicants state their choice of departments and programmes there. - Application file
Applicants must submit their complete application file within the deadlines set by the Directorate of Academic Services. These deadlines are published each year and announced on this page, the IPA website and the University of Burundi website.
